• Rustico Beer Academy: Sour Beers

My girlfriend and I decided to sign up for a recent Rustico Beer Academy class on sour beers and it was well worth my $24.

  • Sixpoint Bengali Tiger

I recently discovered Sixpoint beers, most notably their famous Resin and while I love the Resin, I think I might be an even bigger fan of the Bengali Tiger, their wonderfully balanced single IPA.

  • New Belgium Tart Lychee

…New Belgium’s Lips of Faith Series is pretty hit or miss. With the La Folie, Cocoa Mole, and Clutch being the main hits so far. Well, you can include their latest sour/tart offering of Tart Lychee into that category now.

  • A Beer By Any Other Name (than mine) Would Not Smell As Sweet

Fellow craft beer lovers, Recently, Empyrean Brewing Company and The Quarry Oaks Honey Company collaborated on a honey pale ale beer that is to be debuted at a local race called Mud, Sweat, & Beers here in Nebraska. They started a Facebook contest to come up with a name for their new brew. Being a [...]

  • Cantillon Rosé De Gambrinus

…one evening while perusing the shelves at one of my local beer stores, I came across a few bottles of Rosé De Gambrinus tucked away in the corner of a shelf…

New Belgium La Folie 2012

New Belgium La Folie 2012

La Folie is one of the brews that us beer geeks anticipate all year and it’s also the beer that turned me onto sours…I can’t really say whether this year’s batch is better or worse than previous years but it was definitely good enough for me to snag a few bottles to tuck away.

Hanssens Experimental Cassis

Hanssens Experimental Cassis

The bartender had us at “Now if you’re looking for something really funky…” There was no turning back from there and we were not disappointed by the Hanssens Cassis, a Belgian lambic brewed with black currants and aged for a few years.

Sixpoint Resin

Sixpoint Resin

For some reason, I’ve overlooked Sixpoint beers since I’ve been able to get them here in Northern Virginia…I recently decided to remedy this issue by picking up a pack of the Resin, a notoriously hoppy double IPA (DIPA), when it hit the shelves of my favorite local beer store.

Beer Law Hangovers

Beer Law Hangovers

Being from Kentucky, I’m accustomed to some pretty absurd alcohol laws…What I’ve come to realize, however is that, compared to many other states, Kentucky isn’t nearly as backwards as you might expect in terms of alcohol policies on the books.

Surly Abrasive

Surly Abrasive

I truly could not get enough of this huge beer. Drink it fresh or don’t drink it at all. But seriously, drink this.

Jolly Pumpkin La Roja

Jolly Pumpkin La Roja

I recently got my hands on a bottle of their La Roja which they describe as an “artisan amber ale brewed in the Flanders tradition” but I think most people would describe it as a Flanders Red type ale along the lines of Rodenbach. Either way, it is a deliciously sour beer worth the price tag.
